The Drakan series is a series of action-adventure video games with RPG elements. They are told from the perspective of the warrior woman, Rynn, and her bonded dragon, Arokh, as they battle against strange creatures serving the will of the Dark Union in order to save the world of Drakan.
The gameplay of the Drakan series blends elements of action-adventure games with RPG elements. The player character, Rynn, has controls similar to most action-adventure / platforming games - move, jump, attack - combined with other features such as dodging, rolling, blocking, etc. This is combined with RPG elements where Rynn has RPG attributes such as level, health, and mana. The player is able to collect newer and better equipment, each with its own unique stats and abilities, but also gradually wears out due to use (see: durability).

We may have multiple downloads for few games when different versions are available. Also, we try to upload manuals and extra documentation when possible. If you have additional files to contribute or have the game in another language, please contact us!
Drakan had an advantage that many large game development companies sometimes overlook. It had a young team, highly motivated, bursting with ideas, and ready to take risks. The ideas were unique and motivated by the desire to set Drakan apart from the shooters and Tomb Raider clones (although this was still difficult given the tendency of the gaming press to compare games to one another).
The engine is broken up into many classes that handle various engine tasks and are the interfaces by which the game code accesses the engine. For instance, there is a sound class for playing sounds, a texture class for working with textures, a sequencing class for playback of scripted cutscenes, and numerous others. These also form a framework for future porting of the system-specific functions to other platforms. The stability of this system can be validated; we are currently creating additional games based on the Drakan engine with little or no code changes to the engine project. To further reduce the debugging time, we put coding guidelines in place to ensure the consistency of code between programmers, and created classes to catch array boundary violations and memory allocation problems.Drakan has no scripting language. Instead, the programmers create modules that are visually connected by the designers to create scripted events in the game. Such modules include triggers, switches, timers, counters, and more complex modules such as doors, enemy creatures, and weapons. The modules have programmer-defined parameters associated with them. A parameter can be almost anything: a number, a list of options, a sound, a texture, another module, and so forth.
Drakan is a duology of Action-Adventure games from the defunct Surreal Software, consisting of Drakan: Order of the Flame for PC in 1999 and Drakan: The Ancients' Gates PlayStation 2 in 2002. Given how Surreal moved on to develop The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and The Suffering duology, was bought out by Warner Bros., then merged into Monolith Productions, it's safe to assume that the series will never be continued.
The sequel starts a new storyline (after Delon died offscreen between both games): Rynn and Arokh arrive to the southern city of Surdana, which is currently under attack by an evil race of Desert Lords. It is revealed that although Arokh is now the Last of His Kind, there are more dragons hibernating in Another Dimension and only an ancient dragon like himself can open the eponymous Ancients' Gates to access it. He and Rynn are sent on a quest to find said Gates, awaken the dragons, truly resurrect the Order of the Flame, and fight back the Desert Lords.
It all began with Ralph Baer, the "Father of TV Games." His ideas ushered in a new era of electronic entertainment and sparked the home video game revolution. In the nearly four decades since the release of the Magnavox Odyssey, home video game consoles have become a significant part of American culture and the industry has grown into a multi-billion dollar enterprise. The gaming world was once populated primarily by pre-teen and teenage boys, often huddled around televisions in each other's living rooms. Today, players are boys and girls, men and women, both young and old. They still play in their home or dorm room with friends, but increasingly they play online as well. The games they play are a unique combination of technology and graphic art, and game developers have continually pushed the limits of design to create exciting new settings and cutting-edge graphics. The possibilities for the future seem limitless, and "gamers" eagerly await the release of advanced consoles and new game titles.
I've been playing thru some older games due to getting new headphones and wanted to enjoy the experience of Drakan again. Out of curiosity, I checked Arokh's Lair for any information concerning the patches since the game IS buggy under Windows XP. I then ran across two mods that I have enjoyed. The first is to change the primary character model of Rynn(human) to a Dragon/human hybrid. In my opinion, Rynn looks much better(sexier?) as a Dragon then as a poor well-endowed human. If any are interested in re-visiting this game, either respond to this thread or send me a PM.
A nice big picture update for the first map where you start at. One thing I've noticed is that Armor Piercing weapons have a much higher probability of causing those critical hits where a body part is taken off. When I finish both games, I am open to selling off the CD for a small price as long as it gets a good home.
As a heterosexual male gamer since 1984 on the Atari 2600, I'veenjoyed the increasingly sophisticated ability to create my owncustom made character in RPGs and open world games. Since Ilike to spend 50+ hours on a game I like (even after I've beatenit), I want to create a character I like looking at for that lengthof time. Specifically, I want to create pretty femalecharacters with armors and outfits made for the female gender inmind, not just slight modifications of male designated armor andoutfits. 2ff7e9595c
